The Department of Petroleum Resources recently held a Permits & Consent Review meeting of the USAN Field Development Project with project managers from TOTAL, to appraise progress made by the company in terms of the utilization of the various permits and consents granted by DPR in meeting set targets and milestones of the USAN project.

The meeting which was adjudged quite satisfactory by both parties covered presentations in GSR & Drilling, subsea production, umbilical, flow-line & risers, field operations and HSE matters.

The USAN project was discovered in 2002 in OPL 222 and situated around 100 kilometers offshore, Port Harcourt, in water depths ranging from 750 to 850 meters. The block which has estimated reserves of 500 million barrels of oil, making it one of Nigeria’s world-class fields is coming on-stream as per first oil in 2012. The FPSO, which is a major component to realizing this target date, had since arrived Nigeria late July 2011 from its ‘cradle’ in South Korea.

The FPSO is 320 metres long, 61m wide and 31m high. It has a surface area of four football pitches, and can store up to 2 million barrels of oil with a daily producibility of 180,000 barrels per day.
